They are now all within the Brick Park. When Barbara’s tree is moved, Chris Churchwell will provide a new, separate marker similar to the other tribute trees.”
And what are some of the future plans? Veterans Affairs Group Chair Pete Weyrauch tells us: “We plan to add an Eagle Monument between the bricks and the U.S. Flag just outside of the row of small bushes that will better represent members of all services. Bob Ilzhoefer has taken the lead on this project, assisted by John Macauley. The Veterans Affairs Group will pay for the Eagle and the installation services.”
When restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic precluded live Memorial Day and Veterans Day observances, the Veterans Affairs Group prepared a half-hour TV program with videos honoring Veterans and an introduction by Group Chairman Pete Weyrauch. This program was well-received by resi- dents, who could view it in their apartments on our HSTV channel.
There is a thriving and vibrant community of Veterans at Highland Springs who may continue to expand this History I have compiled as new residents and new activities enhance the Highland Springs campus. There are many heroes in our community, and I hope this History of Veterans at Highland Springs will be a tribute to and a memory of their service.
I hope this is meaningful to you, and that you accept my heartfelt Gift of Gratitude to you, the Veterans who served our country so valiantly. I thank each and every one of you who have contributed!
