JOHN ROBERTS HIGHLAND SPRINGS RESIDENT, NAVY
July 1953 - Attended Navy Officer Candidate School in Newport Rhode Island. Commissioned as Ensign in November 1953.
Assigned to Tactical Air Control Squadron based at Alameda Naval Air Station, Alameda, California.
Two tours aboard ships in the Pacific near the end of Korean War including the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany (below).
Extended stops in Japan, Korea, Okinawa, Hong Kong, and Manila.
Navy Tactical Air Control Squadrons included Officers from the Army, Marines, and Air Force as well as the Navy.
Completed four-year obligation and released from active duty as Lieutenant J G in November 1957.
