This How Stuff Works page has easy-to-understand answers to the common questions about volunteering here at HS and the HS Volunteer Connection website. If you don’t find the information you are looking for then reach out to us at volunteerhsd@gmail.com.

1. Where can I find information about volunteer opportunities?
Volunteer roles are found under the “Opportunities” and “Skill Groups” headings on this website page. Further information will be given about a particular job when you are contacted about a volunteer opportunity.

2. How do I manage/change my profile?
Contact the Volunteer Registrar via email at volunteerhsd@gmail.com or call Resident Life Hotline.

3. How much lead time will I be given if I accept a volunteer opportunity?
That will depend on the job/task.

4. What will I be asked to do?
The person contacting you about a volunteer opportunity will give you that information.

5. How will I be contacted?
You will be contacted by phone, text, email and/or cubby stuffer as indicated on your Registration Form.

6. Will I be given a reminder?
That depends on the person contacting you about a volunteer opportunity organization or department and if you request one.

7. What happens if I turn down a position? Will I be asked again?
Yes, you can be called in the future. Ask any questions you need so you can accept with confidence. If the volunteer offer is not a good fit for you, regardless of the reason………don’t accept.

8. What if I accept a task and am no longer able to fulfill the commitment?
Notify or contact the person who contacted you about the volunteer opportunity of your change of plans.

9. How could my organization use the HS Volunteer Connection for help?
You can request help by contacting the Volunteer Registrar via email at volunteerhsd@gmail.com or call Register Life Hotline.

10. How will I be trained to do the task/job I’m asked to do?

Each organization/department will give you instructions about how they want a job done.

11.  What if someone doesn’t use a computer but wants to volunteer?

If someone you know is unable to register online, paper registration forms are available at newsstands and the front desks.

12. Why are RAC Committees not included in the volunteer opportunities listed?

Annually in October residents are encouraged to volunteer to serve on a RAC Committee. Residents are asked to list their desired committee assignment in order of preference. Members are then chosen by the RAC Council based upon information provided including relevant experience and ensuring representation across the entire community.
